CABA

Colorado VFW & CABA teams up for 8thyear to aid veterans across Colorado. Airlift scheduled for December 9, 2018.

Last year, December 10, 2017 CABA, the Colorado VFW, MSU Denver’s Precision Flying Team, Aerobatic & Glider Team, and Veterans Club, as well as Cub Scout Pack 39 of Evergreen worked together to collect and transport donations to Centennial Airport, where they were loaded onto 33 aircraft for delivery to Montrose, Delta, Alamosa, Pueblo, Las Animas, Burlington, Fort Morgan, and Greeley. In Montrose, a portion of the cargo was transferred to two additional aircraft which were then flown by highly experienced mountain pilots for deliveries to Durango, Cortez, and Dove Creek. Aircraft were met at the destination airports by teams of VFW personnel who distributed the goods directly to veterans and families.

The VFW Congressional Charter, Sec. 230102 – Purposes.

The purposes of the corporation are fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable, and education, and are in part:

            1. to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members;

            2. to assist worthy comrades;

            3. to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their surviving spouses and orphans.

Our Commander’s Special Project – CABA fills in part the above needs of our organization. We intend to make the holiday season a little less stressful for our fellow veterans by giving them donated food and toys and a little cheer during this holiday season. Over the past 7 years we have distributed over 18,000 pounds to these worthy veterans and their families.

How can your post be a part of this project this year?

            1. Financial donation from your relief fund. (put CABA in the memo).

            2. Canned or boxed food donations.

            3. Toys, toys and more toys.

            4. Request a plane or planes to your local airport on December 9, 2018.

We now have 11 posts distributing food/toys on the program. 33 planes flew merchandise to these posts last year. We hope to increase to more posts this year. Another group of pilots have indicated they would like to be part of the program in 2018. This means we need more posts to deliver goods.

The next move is up to you and your post and auxiliary. All merchandise/food/monies must be delivered to Department Headquarters by December 1, 2018.

Contact Peter Buchanan, PDC, for additional information or to set up your post for the air drop to your local airport.
